
The following members of the faculty are actively involved in teaching courses in innovation and entrepreneurship at the School of Management. As we continue to develop and expand the scope of our cross-disciplinary programs, we anticipate that members of the faculties of the other schools will be added to the list of those teaching courses in innovation and entrepreneurship.
Frank Anderson joined the faculty of the School of Management as a Senior Lecturer in 2005, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in finance. He currently teaches the undergraduate course in Entrepreneurial Finance.
Mr. Anderson holds a BBA (cum laude) in Finance and an MBA (magna cum laude) from the University of North Texas and a Graduate Studies Certificate in Conflict and Dispute Resolution from Southern Methodist University.
In a business career spanning nearly three decades, Mr. Anderson has held senior positions in a number of national and regional securities and financial services firms. Most recently, he served as Vice President and Portfolio Manager for Merrill Lynch, Vice President for Corporate Finance at Citigroup and Managing Director, Research for Samco Capital Markets. He holds NASD Series 7, 63, 66, 86 and 87 license and the NYSE Supervisory Analyst 16 and Group One Life and Health licenses.
Elizabeth Frank Jones is an adjunct faculty member and Executive in Residence at the School of Management, where she is a co-instructor for Entrepreneurial Finance. Jones received a bachelor's degree in economics and political science from Wellesley College and earned her MBA in international finance and strategic management from the RSM Erasmus School of Business (Netherlands). Her professional career spans more than 20 years in strategic financial management, corporate venture investing, and technology commercialization and licensing.
Dr. Joseph Picken is the executive director of the institute and a senior lecturer in the School of Management. He teaches graduate courses in strategic management, entrepreneurship, leadership and organizational behavior. Prior to joining the UT Dallas faculty, Picken taught at Southern Methodist University and the University of Texas at Arlington. Dr. Picken holds an AB in economics from Dartmouth College, an MBA in finance and accounting from The Amos Tuck School at Dartmouth and a Ph.D. in business administration from the University of Texas at Arlington.
Robert Robb is a senior lecturer in the School of Management, teaching both graduate and undergraduate courses in entrepreneurship. He received a bachelor's degree in environmental biology and a master's degree in biology from the University of Utah. With 23 years experience as an entrepreneur, venture investor and technology transfer professional, Robb has created, managed and/or nurtured 22 early stage companies and served as CEO of seven emerging enterprises. He has coached entrepreneurs in all facets of creating and managing new ventures and has raised more than $80 million for start-up and emerging enterprises. Robb's experience also includes six years with venture capital firms and 10 years as a technology commercialization executive at Baylor College of Medicine and the University of Michigan.
Dr. Rajiv Shah is a Clinical Professor of Entrepreneurship, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Entrepreneurship, Entrepreneurial Strategy and Technology Management. He holds a B.Sc. in physics, mathematics and statistics from the University of Pune, in India, an MS and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Rice University, and an Executive MBA from Southern Methodist University. He has also served on the faculty of the California Institute of Technology as the Dr. Chaim Weizmann Post Doctoral Research Fellow. Over the past several years, he has served on the Industrial Advisory Boards for UT Dallas and Southern Methodist University and as a member of the Engineering Executive Board at SMU since 2002.
Dr. David Springate is a professor of finance and associate dean for Executive Education programs in the School of Management and oversees the executive degree programs and continuing education and professional development activities of the School of Management. Dr. Springate teaches the course in Entrepreneurial Finance and other courses in finance and international management studies. Dr. Springate has a Ph.D. in corporate finance from the Harvard Business School, an MBA from the University of Western Ontario, a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Alberta and a bachelor's of science degree from the Royal Military College.
In addition to the full-time teaching faculty, the majority of the courses in the program make extensive use of external resources to expose the students to the world of entrepreneurship; many of these are CEOs of entrepreneurial firms from across the North Texas region.
