Venture Development Internships

The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) has established a relationship with The Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at UTD (IIE) to provide internal resources to assist and enhance the formation of new business start-ups as potential licensees of appropriate technology developed or owned by UTD. Under this arrangement, IIE faculty, students and mentors act as business formation consultants, providing hands-on assistance and facilitating access to University and outside resources.

Currently, services are provided primarily to UTD faculty, researchers and graduate students seeking assistance in the commercialization of their intellectual property via the creation of a new venture and companies that have negotiated the right to commercialize UTD-owned or developed intellectual property. In the future, services may be offered to non-affiliated organizations, subject to resource availability.

Each year, IIE hires a number of graduate students as Venture Development Interns to support this program. As an intern in the IIE’s Venture Development Center, the student will have the opportunity to work with UTD faculty and researchers, entrepreneurs, the business community and venture capital investors in new product/technology assessment, marketing and business strategy, business development, launching new enterprises and the technology transfer processes for the commercialization of new technology and products.

Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree (engineering or technical background preferred), enrollment in a UT Dallas graduate program (preference will be given to MBA students concentrating in Innovation and Entrepreneurship), a current GPA of 3.0 or higher, with skills in MS Office systems (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and excellent written communication and oral presentations skills.
