In June 2016, the IIE announced that it had won the Blackstone Charitable Foundation’s grant award in the amount of $1,000,000 over a three-year period to launch the Blackstone LaunchPad program. Blackstone Launchpad, a campus-based entrepreneurship program, is designed to support and mentor students, staff, and alumni of all majors and backgrounds.

To date, the program has created an accessible network of more than 500,000 students worldwide. Modeled after a successful program out of the University of Miami, the Blackstone LaunchPad is designed to help drive economic development in communities around partner universities in hopes of encouraging students to remain and develop their ideas with the region and prepare students to enter today’s workforce with an open-minded entrepreneurial attitude. Other campuses that currently run the LaunchPad program are Cornell University, Temple University, UCLA, Trinity College Dublin and Syracuse University, just to name a few.

Aimed to launch on UT Dallas’ campus in fall 2016, the Blackstone LaunchPad program will introduce UT Dallas students to entrepreneurship through the development of entrepreneurial skills with mentorship, education, support, and training. The LaunchPad program will be housed in a central location on campus that will be visible and easily accessible to students on a day-to-day basis. The LaunchPad program will work closely with and complement the other IIE programs and initiatives to further strengthen the innovation and entrepreneurship culture across campus.
