The Student Startup Accelerator

Presented by the Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (IIE) and The Dallas Entrepreneur Center (DEC)

Throughout the 10-week program, student accelerator teams will meet daily in efforts to launch their venture by using lean startup methodologies. During the duration of the program, student teams will accelerate the startup process through lunch and learns, mentor office hours, weekly pitch practices and lectures.

Program mentors, coaches, and instructors will be comprised of business leaders and industry partners that will help provide context on startup related issues such as funding, finances, legal, marketing/sales, etc.

The program will conclude with a pitch day where teams will pitch in front of a panel of judges in efforts to win a cash prize.

Student Teams

Students representing all 10 major North Texas universities looking to build out their business concept are encouraged to apply for the program. Teams will have one or two students and may consist of undergraduate/graduate, cross-disciplinary backgrounds, and cross-university representation.


The DEC, located in the Historic West End in Downtown Dallas, and local co-working space.

Program Cost

$500 per team (covers desk space at the DEC, access key(s), printing/copying supplies, Internet)


Teams will face off in a final pitch day at the conclusion of the program and will have the opportunity to win cash prizes along with other awards and benefits to help jumpstart their ventures.

First Place: $2,500

Second Place: $1,000

Week 6: Competitive Analysis and Partners

Week 7: Go to Market/Sales Strategy and Resources and Costs/Projecting Cash Flow

Week 8: Types of Pitches (Elevator vs. Investor) and Presentation Skills

Week 9: Communication/Marketing and Building a Launch Team

Week 10: Final Pitch Event
