Richardson, Texas (March 12, 2019) – The UT Dallas Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship today announced it will host its 2nd Annual Emerging Technologies (EmTech) Summit on April 2, in downtown Dallas, in partnership with Dallas Startup Week.

EmTech 2019: “Esports and the New Gaming Economy” brings together pioneers in new ventures with innovators from the startup ecosystem and early adopters in mid-size and large enterprises. EmTech 2018, the Summit’s inaugural year, focused on the intersection of fintech, AI, and the global blockchain phenomenon. An audience of more than 700 from around North Texas attended the Summit, keynoted by Don Tapscott, New York Times best-selling author of “The Blockchain Revolution,” with sponsors Goldman Sachs, Hypergiant, IBM, & Roger Wilco.

EmTech 2019 will be presented at the Mavs Gaming Center the afternoon of Tuesday, April 2, with an Esports showcase and gaming technology expo at Capital Factory-Dallas the same evening.

“The mission of EmTech 2019 is to elevate the next generation of Esports and gaming products and services in a culturally iconic industry,” said Steve Guengerich, executive director of the UT Dallas institute. “We expect the extraordinary line-up of speakers to address the current and future economic impact of this emerging industry for Dallas and the broader economy, in the process inspiring UT Dallas students and regional professionals to participate, through new, entrepreneurial career paths.”

Among featured speakers at EmTech 2019 are Mark “Garvey” Candella, global lead of strategic partnerships for Twitch, Matt Hooper, development director of software development for Oculus VR, and Leemon Baird, founder and CTO of Hedera Hashgraph.

The partnership with Dallas Startup Week brings a major, special event to an already record-breaking slate of week-long programming in the festival’s Gaming and Esports track, chaired by Kedreon Cole of Scoreboard Ventures. Registration is open and free to the public for all tracks at Dallas Startup Week, including special events like EmTech 2019.

“With this fifth anniversary of Dallas Startup Week, we’re thrilled to feature the EmTech Summit, coincidentally, as the fifth major special event this year,” said Alyce Alston, CEO, the DEC Network and DSW Organizer.
