Venture Advisory Services
There is no greater way to learn and grow your venture than meeting with industry professionals who can help answer questions and work through challenges. The incubated companies are matched with mentors based on their needs following the initial assessment and have access to one-on-one weekly mentorship opportunities as well as weekly mentor office hours at the VDC. During these sessions, entrepreneurs will have a chance to talk with experienced entrepreneurs, industry experts, and investment professionals who have experience working with startup companies. We encourage teams to meet with their mentor several times per month. The goal of this program is to make progress with the venture and develop deep personal working relationships.
Click the “Register” button to see the list of available mentors and the times they are available for mentor office hours. Then click “Sign Up” to select a time slot with a mentor.
Entrepreneurial Development Series (EDS)
The Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (IIE) provides formal training programs for students, faculty, staff, and the entrepreneurial community. These sessions make up the Entrepreneurial Development Series and are focused on tactical, module-based training that prepares entrepreneurs, innovators, and inventors for the launch of a new business. We have collaborated with the IIE to develop a series tailored specifically to the needs of incubated companies at the VDC who are going through the Venture Development Incubator Program (VDIP).
The Entrepreneurial Development Series will be held on the last Friday of every month from 10am-2pm. Once your team is accepted into VDIP you will be able to access the schedule, topics, and sign-up for the sessions that interest you.
Registration for the Spring semester has closed.
There are numerous programs around the DFW community that support and promote startup growth. We encourage VDC teams to participate in as many of these events as possible. Incubated companies will also have a custom plan built for them outlining a community engagement strategy based on their fundraising needs.
1 Million Cups Dallas
1 Million Cups is a free, national program designed to educate, engage, and connect entrepreneurs. Developed by the Kauffman Foundation, 1MC is based on the notion that entrepreneurs discover solutions and network over a million cups of coffee. Every Wednesday morning, one or two early-stage startups present their companies to a diverse audience of their peers, mentors, educators, and advisors. Prior to presenting, the founder prepares by incorporating lessons from the Kauffman Founders School “Powerful Presentations” series, featuring Nathan Gold. Each founder presents for six minutes, followed by a 20-minute question-and-answer session with the audience. Afterward, each startup receives feedback via an audience survey and from the local organizers in their city. The culture surrounding 1 Million Cups is that of a supportive, neutral space welcoming entrepreneurs to be open and honest about their businesses and the challenges they face. You can apply to present at 1 Million Cups here.
